This Saturday August 26, I will be standing with Londoners to rally for peace, unity and inclusion, and to oppose those who seek to bring hatred, fear and division into our community.
As MPP for London West, it has been my great privilege to stand in the Legislature and fight for the well-being of our city. This means recognizing and celebrating London's diversity as the source of our strength, and the foundation for our shared prosperity.
I am proud of the leadership London has shown - with the support and involvement of citizens of all faiths and backgrounds - to confront and eradicate the ugly reality of racism in our city. We must not let the progress we are making be thwarted by those who seek to divide us.
The horrifying violence in Charlottesville reveals the consequences of not speaking out strongly and resolutely against bigotry, racial discrimination and white nationalism. But the voices of those who peacefully oppose racism and hate will always be louder than the voices of the racists. It is only by coming together as citizens and community leaders to unequivocally and unconditionally reject racism in all of its forms, including Islamophobia and antisemitism, that we can build the community and the country we know is possible.
