LONDON - MPPs Teresa Armstrong (London-Fanshaw), Terence Kernaghan (London North Centre) and Peggy Sattler (London West) issued the following statement in support of the City of London's Health and Homeless Hubs Implementation Plan:
"As London MPPs, we wholeheartedly support the City of London’s Health and Homelessness Hubs Implementation Plan. We are deeply appreciative of the hours of work, years of expertise, and unparalleled compassion that community partners and City staff have poured into this groundbreaking project. We are truly inspired by the community’s rallying together to address the homelessness crisis in London.
We are confident in the proven expertise and experience of trusted lead agencies, Atlohsa Family Healing Services, CMHA Thames Valley Addiction and Mental Health Services, and Youth Opportunities Unlimited to implement and manage the first three hubs. We know that they will bring the greatest possible attention and care to addressing community concerns.
Londoners care deeply about their communities, and we understand that many questions have been raised about the facility proposed at 705 Fanshawe Park Road West. This facility is not a traditional shelter or drop-in. It will provide transitional housing for women who, while still vulnerable and in need of support, are ready to take the next step on the path to stable housing for them and their families. Some of the women may have their children living with them.
We further understand that the criteria regarding the proximity of the hubs to other community facilities such as schools and parks were included because that is what the community had asked for during the input process.
We believe strongly that every part of London can be part of the solution to our homelessness crisis, and that vulnerable people deserve our support as they work to rebuild their lives."
